Designed for manufacturing by Oregon Corrections Enterprises, for installation in the Blue River Community Park.
Designed in collaboration with Jackie Yerke
A space-creating design highlights the flexibility and the versatility of the material. The perforated cuts add levity and allow for vining plants to grow within the design. The inward facing benches create a communal space in the center under the arch, while the offset arrangement allows different viewing experiences of the park.
In order to blend-in and weather gracefully, the bench will be made of Corten steel and Oregon White Oak. The arch will be home to native vining plants like the Orange Honeysuckle, and will attract pollinators such as the Variable Checkerspot and the Calliope Hummingbird, which are often quick to return to forests that have been burned.
